School is for learning and anything that detracts from learning cannot be tolerated. Staying focused on the lesson being taught and other classroom-related tasks is important. In my classroom, the following steps are taken when a student interferes with the learning process by talking, getting up without permission, or a variety of other behaviors.
First Offense - Student is verbally warned. Second Offense - Student and teacher have a private chat in the hallway about his or her behavior. Unfortunately, this is during class time and takes away from other students' learning. Third Offense - Parents are called and asked to discuss behavior with student.
Any further offenses are referred to the principal or other administrator.
At the teacher's discretion, higher level disciplinary measures can be used if the situation is warranted.
Please refer to the Student Handbook for more information. The Student Handbook is given to every student on the first Wednesday of school year.
